Programs
& Services

We utilize a three-pronged approach to meet the needs of our communties.

The Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund

Through the Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund, we at In Our Own Voices are now distributing funds to eligible survivors of domestic violence who are pregnant or already have children, and who are experiencing specific crisis’s due to the pandemic. These funds can be used for certain non-recurrent, short-term expenses related to housing and essential needs, such as rent and utilities. Funding is available for expenses occurring between March 1, 2022, and May 31, 2022, and more information can be found below:

Source and Use: The federally funded American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 established the $1 billion Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund to assist eligible families affected by the pandemic, and who are in a specific crisis. Allocated in the fiscal year 2022 New York State Budget and administered by the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) in partnership with the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) was over $21 million.

Eligibility Summary: OTDA has determined that that survivors of domestic violence meet the eligibility criteria if they or someone in their household:

  • Currently receive TANF or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; or
  • Currently receive Medicaid benefits AND have verified incomes that fall below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines for their family size.

Amount Cap: There is no enforced limit on the amount a survivor may receive in assistance, but it is advised to use gift cards purchased in increments depending on needs. Rent and retrospective rent payments can be covered up to 4 months.
